A Dream House appeals to anyone and everyone

It is not uncommon for people to include a home of their own as one of the ingredients of their ideal future. In fact, this wish probably immediately succeeds that of having a stable job and a family to come home to. This is understandable, since Filipinos are essentially family-oriented people, and it is very possible that every red-blooded Filipino has some sort of an ancestral house to go back to in the province, or even in the metro.

A house is an appealing investment, considering that real estate property values have a high chance of appreciating at a significant rate, especially in areas surrounding the bustling metropolis. Localities which were previously a practical no man's land are now getaway extensions of the city, as it slowly creeps outwards to meet its increasing population's demands.

Houses also translate into security for most Filipinos, both financial and personal. Owning a house means that one can always come home to it without ever worrying if he or she can still afford it on the next month, a problem which is usually faced by renters. The owner can also pretty much do anything he or she wants with the property, if she wants a gazebo in the driveway, she may do so as she pleases, without worrying if the landlord would approve of such a dramatic addition to the property.

And if worse comes to worst, there is always the option of putting up the house on the real estate market; properties as such are generally good investment opportunities, and owners with homes which are located in strategic areas will have no problem, when it comes to the possibility of it being sold out at a favorable price.

Whatever the reason, owning a house is still a favorable undertaking, despite the initial financial commitments and maintenance which it requires. Filipinos dream of a house of their own because it symbolizes their yearning to keep familial ties close and warm, with a tangible thing to anchor it to.
